In 2021, Ofcom commissioned a report into the potential challenges of introducing CLI authentication in the UK. The report's insights and recommendations are based on lessons from the implementation of STIR/SHAKEN in the US and Canada, as well as conversations with relevant experts in the UK. Recently, they requested stakeholders' views on their initial findings, prompting Numeracle to rise to the task.
Numeracle's response to Ofcom's consultation emphasized the need to go beyond CLI authentication and focus on identifying the actual entities making the calls. They proposed integrating the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) system facilitated by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) with CLI authentication frameworks such as STIR/SHAKEN. This approach would lead to a more comprehensive solution to verify call identity and ensure legal and wanted calls are delivered without hindrance.
